Blogging

Conversational WritingEver wondered Why do some bloggers, with repeated contents, still manage to gain far more exposure than someone who constantly keeps on producing unique articles? The answer to this question is the tone you use.

What the $%&@ is Conversational Writing?

Simply, Conversational writing means write like you’re talking to someone infront. With views, examples and expressions. For example you’ve just uploaded WordPress 2.7.1 and you want to Post about it. Instead of titling the Post “Uploaded WordPress 2.7.1” or “WordPress 2.7.1 is Uploaded” go ahead writing like “Yay! I just uploaded WordPress 2.7.1” and the reader will automatically be attracted towards your post and will be forced to read it thoroughly.  Believe me, I’ve tried it.. :P

Blogging Conversationally:

Rule of the thumb; marketing and business talk does not work for blogs! If you ever come across a marketing person or business entrepreneur, notice their conversational methods. They generally tend to speak in a passive voice; selling themselves at all times. Selling your skills is a big No while blogging. You need to impart your skills freely, not offer them as if you intend to sell them to your readers.

Conversational Writing

Your blog readers are your friends!

This simple idea is sometimes forgotten by bloggers, who see their readers as more of a business client and less of a friend. Talk to your readers, do not lecture them! The last thing anyone wants to read in an overpopulated niche is a long boring lecture. Try to promote your posts as a solution and not the cause. Think of it as “coffee” and not a “sleeping pill”.

Trouble with Writing Conversationally?

Think about a topic and speak aloud. If possible, talk to a friend about it. Even if no one is around, holding a phone to your head does help. Try putting this conversation into words, (minus the occasional swearing and curses :p ) , and compile a blog post out of this. With

practice, you will have no trouble writing in a conversational tone.

The most important aspect of conversational blogging is setting the mindset that blogging is an informal activity, where there is no place for business talk or like you’re talking with your friends. Once you master this aspect, you will have no trouble attracting loyal readership to your blog.
