These days Google.com provides Universal search, which includes:
- Products (Google Product Search)
- News (Google News)
- Images (Google Image Search)
- Blogs (Google Blogs)
- Geo-targeted Business Listings (Google Maps)
- Video (Google Video)
So Image Optimization may help you to get bull’s eye (Link on First Page of Google result). Here are few key areas where you can optimize the Google result.
File Name -
I found most peoples use default names to the image given by there cams, mobiles it won’t help in image classification better to give the Exact name to the image that can be searched, remember to keep the relavency with the image and the name specified.
Image Alt Attribute -
Many times peoples just put the Alt Attribute of the image as blank, or just the image name. Alt attribute is just for description of image then why not use it. Let it be self explanatory. say you have an image of “Nokia N82″
Image Alt Attribute should be like :
“Black Nokia N82 With Wide Screen and a carl ziess lens with 5 MP Camera. “
Such description may contain various properties of the Image. Remember not to overdo it.
Caption -
Specially in wordpress, you got a caption another place to describe more about the image. Its just text that surrounds the image helps Google to understand the subject matter of the image.
Anchor Text –
The text you use when linking to the image helps to describe and classify the image. Try using descriptive anchor text rather than words such as “click here”, “larger image” or “more photos” when describing the link.
Google Image Labeler –
Google Image Labeler, a feature of Google Search that allows you to label images and help improve the quality of Google’s image search results. Being a blogger you have to enable Google Image labeler from Google webmaster tools.

Once your Images are ready to be labelled. Image labeler users will be able to label your images. which will provide more accuracy in image search.
Okay then..

Ever since I started using the Thesis theme, I have been writing out ALT images in every image I upload. It’s a good SEO move, and something I probably should have been doing all along.

Glad to see you here Alex.
Yeah right.. I’ve been adding ALT tag from the first day I’ve started blogging, though I didn’t knew what did this do but still I did it from the very beginning.

You are so right, Google can give you thousands of hits a month if you create and link your images correctly.
I first try and find an image I require from images.google.co.za, it seems to be easier for me.
Thanks for sharing this info, very interesting points.

By Alt img title, you mean the text I enter as “title” of the uploaded image, right?

Alt and title are different though. But when we add title in Wordpress while Uploading Image, it automatically uses the same text for Alt.
