First of all let me all tell you
What is Twitter ?
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as followers). - Wikipedia
For me Twitter is great for staying in contact with fellow bloggers, designers or whatsoever your niche is. You follow them, tweet re-tweet and create a small network with just 140 characters. On the other hand, Today. Twitter is most fastest way to promote your website/blog. But still I’ll repeat a well known saying again “Content is King”. Twitter may bring you visitors, but unless you have great content no one is going to come back again.
Lets see How can we interact with other Tweeples (Twitter People):
1. Sign-up on Twitter, ofcourse you’re already there.
Brand Yourself:
Get yourself a custom Profile Background, a breif Bio that describes you completely and a cool Avatar.
- Avatar are also been divided into two.. if you want to promote only and only your site, get your Company/Website logo as your Avatar.
- But if you want to interact with fellow tweeples as well as Promote your Website content, I’ll rather suggest get your self some cool nice photo of yours
- Your Photo will leave an impression on the tweeple like oh there’s another tweeple with same niche interest and he’s cool rather than watching your Company’s logo and maybe not many follow you back.
Find People:
If you’re new at twitter, you may need to search for people with same niche or interest. You can try Twitter search for that.
Purpose of Re-tweet ?
If not much people know you on twitter. The best way to interact and start a converse with them is Re-tweet. It makes the fellow tweep happy to see someone really liked his tweet and promoted with a RT.
How to Re-tweet?
It’s as simple as if some one just tweeted like: Swine Flu sucks ! You just add a RT with his @name before the tweet.
RT @enked Swine Flu sucks !
It’ll let him know you accompany on his thoughts and he might thank you for the re-tweet.
What are #Hashtags ?
When you add # before any of your words in your tweet, that word is than taken as a tag which is used for search results.
What is #followfriday ?
#Followfriday is kind of a Twitter Occassion. On Friday people all around the twitter world share tweeple names with a followfriday hastag. The people listed for followfriday are said to be worth followed. You can also interact with other by following them and maybe one day you become one of the followfriday suggested tweep.
Be ware !
Do not SPAM your followers or they will quickly unfollow you. Its not necessary you always tweet about your site. You can tweet about what your ideas about your next project, what did you have in lunch, etc.
Gain followers:
- Follow other users who share your interests, it will lead to others following you
- Add a customized widget to your website to let others know they can follow you.

A very good guide for beginners, I think that a ReTweet is a very useful weapon, you can attract a lot of people simple by retweeting good and useful information.

Twitter is a great tool, and you can achieve so much by using it, let it be marketing your new business, networking with people with similar interests, getting your name out there, whatever but you need to know how to use the right way first to achieve all this or else it might become a waste of time for you!

Regarding the spam point, I think it’s important to try and interact with your followers rather than just posting your links. RT people’s latest posts, get involved in conversations and, as you suggested, followfriday!

Well it’s just a matter of fact that we join twitter to get the most potential of it by sharing what we like with others, but sometimes it just crosses the limit of sharing and can easily be recognized as Spam, and in reality sometimes we ignore (not unfollow) them to be in contact with them, as might be we can get some good stuff from them next time.
I agree with Enk and you also regarding spam thing [but then I must be confused, ok ! you decide]
