Neither I’m a SEO Expert nor this Post was written by any SEO Expert. Well, I’ve written this post myself with all the knowdledge I had about SEO in my mind.. so some points may go wrong but all work pretty well. I’m starting with the Post Title here.
Post Title
Though I have chosen this to be the very first point of the article but I suggest you to write or choose your Post Article when you’re finsihed writing the stuff. As it sometimes happen you write the title first and your stuff changes the track while writing (it usually happens). So I prefer, the best practice is, Finsh writing your article, read it down again and then think of the Post Title.
Add Keywords in Post Titles:
Try using usefull keywords in your Post Titles but don’t just fill your Title with all the Keywords, prefer quality over quantity here. Plus, try writing Capital for the first letter of each Word. I can write a whole new post about that, but this works.. beleive me !
An Image in a Post:
As I prefer every Post should have atleast One image. You should also know how to optimize it. In breif, use usefull File name, Good Keyword for your ALT Tag, sometimes description too.. if you want to !
The Content:
Well, I don’t have pretty much to say about this thing. As you all know Content is King. The Genuine, Well Written, Original and Formatted Content is one of the main things to do !
Formatting the Content:
Use Headings, Bullets, Blockquotes where necessary.
About Headings, DO NOT use H1 tag other than Post Titles. That means your highest H tag should start from H2 and go less.. Though there are total of 6 fro H1 to H6 but I guess not all are used. As I use only from H1 to H4 mostly.
Bullets and Numbers, use them where you are listing something.
Blockquotes, use them when you are showing something out of the content, something like the Universal Truth.. or let’s say someone’s saying or convo.. like

Choosing the right Keywords:
The best way to know the perfect keywords is, Search yourself for the stuff you are writing about and see what keywords or search terms did you use. As you’re a human yourself you’ll use the most common or must used search terms for that kinda article and obviously most of the humans will do the same.
Using Keywords:
Well if you are writing about t-shirts and adding keywords like “T shirt, Red T shirt, Blue T shirt, Green T shirt” . This is called Keyword stuffing and this is wrong as you have repeated the T shirt 4 times. The correct one will be “T shirt, Red, Blue, Green” as Search Engine takes care of the rest combining, manupulating keywords to search for the perfect article.
The Inner SEO:
Here We talk about Meta Description Tag. As Meta Keyword Tag can be said is covered by the Keyword Section.
Just like if you Post Excerpt to explain your article on the main page in a little text, here you have to do the same but more shorter..
Google displays 160 characters of description after the Title in Search Results. So, its now your job how you explain your article precisly and with good keyword phrases.
Blog Url:
This is automated with Post Titles in Wordpress. The SEO friendly Url or Pretty Url are those which can be understood by a simple net user, like “http://www.domainname.com/Facebook-is-hacked”. Well the url is not pretty true, just an example but a simple user can easily uderstand what the page will be about, berfore loading. As well as easy for the crawler to understand the content.
Using “/%postname%/ on “http://www.domainname.com/wp-admin/options-permalink.php” is one of the best type of Pretty or SEO Friendly URLs.
Some Usefull Articles to read:
- What is Meta Tag ?
- What is .htaccess ?
- What is the “ALT” Tag ?
- What are Permalinks ? – Setting up Permalinks
- ALL IN ONE SEO Plugin Usage
Yup!
I know this isn’t enough yet.. I’ll be updating this article. So if you wish to add some points, give me some suggestions or point out any of the mistakes I made. Feel free to Comment and lemi know, I might link you for the nice suggestions

Well I would suggest the Date + Postname in the Url, totally agree with you the pretiest are %postname% ones but the google thingy is like it gives some sort of value to every post right ? so using only %postname% can be harmful in some cases that is in the long run. Using the date with this will also avoid the chance of searching for a title that is not already there in ur posts cos u have to choose a different striking title everytime. Just a thought
I am not good a SEO any way

First of all, its foh sure no one uses same title for more than 1 Post. Plus, if that happends, Wordpress takes care of it automatically by doing some slight changes. After that, ALL IN ONE SOE or other Pretty URL making Plugins are there.
Even if not enough, Slugs are in your hand always. And %postname% is the prettiest of all !

I don’t either I don’t think it matters too much. The more content you write and the more you update the more the search engines will notice.
Although it’s still good to try to get maybe a keyword density of like 2% – 5%. Meaning 2 – 3 out of every 100 words are keywords.

Hey for good SEO, one should use semantic mark up, so that the HTML gives a structure to Search Engines, i.e. Google and the others understand whats the Head, content, navigation and so on.
So about the tip, related to using the Hx tag, heres my two cents, The Blog Title should use the H1 tag (chidimar in your case.. and even if its an image, you can wrap an image in the H1 tag.) another thing is just one h1 tag per page, or you can be considered as spam.
Then the post title should be h2 tag, sidebar headers h3. and using a strong tag for highlighting stuff within a post is good enough. if you want to check this further, you should check out the text version of google’s cache of you site… if it looks good, i.e. like a document… then your good.
thanks
Alex

It was really informative for me. Do you want it to update the post with your suggestions ? or a new post ?

A new post in my opinion. There’s quite a lot of information to be covered and it makes it easier for returning viewers to see it. If you edit it, people might click on Chidimar, see there’s no new posts and click off again, so they won’t see the changes

hey,
sorry for the delay in replying.. I do understand this post is more from a blogger than an seo guy.. And therefore i stepped into correct what i see as over enthusiastic seo.. Where you read/experience something like hx tag are good for seo and go hx tag crazy on your site, to a point where it does more harm than good.
That said, being an seo professional, i feel happy to see people taking seo seriously. And the best advice i can give is don’t think seo, but usability, usability of even users like search engines.. Make sure they can read your images(alt tags) and crawl past any fancy java script or even tell things like your navigation, site header, titles, sub titles and so on.
A good place to learn about seo is seomoz.org do look up their beginners guide, cheatsheet and seo pyramid.
@enk it would be my pleasure if you update this post, but thats completely your call and do it only if your 100% convinced with my view.
I would be happy to get queries from anyone about seo, wordpress and web development.
Thanx
Alex

One good practice is to naturally insert keywords in your posts. After proofreading a post, I usually check for words/phrases that can be turned into keywords more relevant to the topic in discussion.
Same goes for the title. If possible, you can tweak it a bit and make it more SE-friendly (however, don’t forget you’re writing for human beings!).

I don’t really put SEO to mind at all on my blogs, because the theme I use, Thesis, is doing extremely well for me. All I have to do is come up with a title with keywords in it, and Thesis will do the rest. It eliminates the need for me to much SEO at all, and as a result…I never would have figured out some of the things you mentioned in the post!

Yup, Thesis is really cool SEO friendly theme.
well, my point is. I write only and only about humans. Than at the end I optimize it for SEO like post titles that meat humans and SE both and keywords, meta tags for SEs..
