1. I am not earning.
Yeah I can understand that.. doing a hard work but nothing in return is really demotivating. But to be honest, if you blog for money. You are never going to get it. I prefer you, blog for your readers your friends and one day the favour will come back in the shape of earning.
2. There’s not much traffic
Maybe because there isn’t much content yet? or maybe the same content everyone else is giving. Answer my one simple question.
What makes you think your content is unique ? Are you really writing something out of the box ?
I’ll explain this all in one sentence “Content is King”.. yeah I know you have heard it before. But its true, write great content and get great traffic !
3. There are no comments.
Well, there are couple of things that can be done to overcome this problem.
Write for readers, not search engines. Create discussions.. write a “Don’t forget to share your views about this” kinda text after your posts. Add some cool plugins like Top Commentator or CommentLuv. Go to some your fellow bloggers, if not fellow just some nice blogs and leave some comments. Try to get in there Top Commentator List.. have a discussion with them. Share information and it happens vice versa.. “A comment in need is a comment indeed”
4. My niche is a bore !
This is something you should have thought before going for it. And as far as I know, no niche is bore its the writers who bring charm to the niche.. its you who can change this bore niche into a blogging competetion. Be the first to rock this bore niche in Blogosphere. !
And I guess, bore niche = less comepetetion = easy rankings. Easy Rankings = much traffic.
5. I write for Search Engines
Now, thats completely your fault. Write for humans (readers/friends) and you’ll feel the difference. Keep a conversational tone in writing. Why we all disagree on writing for search engines is in this short story that
You write for search engines, you get good rankings. Visitors come, read and leave (with no return).
You write for humans, you get average rankings. Visitor comes reads and reads and leaves (and returns).
So the ball is in your court now.
Any disease above, you are suffering from ? Are you thinking to close your blog ? Any thing you’d like to add to this post ?
Feel free to drop comments.. I love to hear from you !![]()

Blogging is a roller coaster ride for sure. I feel your pain man; for some reason traffic and comments dropped off a lot on my blog, and I don’t know why. The important thing is overcoming it and to keep producing quality content. Quality comments work well too. Good luck!

Great post, I’m debating whether or not to add advertising to my site. I’m doing about 4 thousand hits a month and wondering whether putting ads in is worth my time and the flack I’m going to get from my readers.
[Reply]
July 11th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
I don’t think putting ads is bad. As you said you have 4k+ hits a month. You should try putting ads but don’t fill your blog with ads. 2-3 are enough for a page, those blend well with the blog colors !

Hi .. thanks for this post .. it has helped me to stay motivated.
I just recently launched a blog which gives away high quality FREE Photoshop Templates. I know there is a huge demand for this as most sites sell templates, but on my blog they are free.
My question is … how long does it take before you see high amount of traffic coming in?
Many thanks

I actually thought you were closing down for a few seconds. My initial thought was “my first time here and it’s gone” kinda thing.

I think your traffic point is one which many bloggers give up on. They expect results to come quickly and when they don’t they just move on.
Blogging is a long term thing, people can’t expect to get great rankings and traffic in a few days.

Good advice. Too many people think they are going to make a bunch of money with no effort blogging. You should blog because you enjoy it and have something you want to contribute to the world. If you make money along the way, then that’s a bonus.

Do some people just read the title and then comment? I was 90% sure this post was about offering advice about why not to stop blogging, when I saw the title – then when read the first point, with it’s comment immediately below – from yourself – I was 100% sure this was a post to help others not to give up and close down their blogs. I don’t quite understand how many got it wrong and actually believed you were closing your blog – or perhaps they were just teasing you that they didn’t understand?
Whatever. It’s a good post.

I dont think comments are a measure of the popularity of a blog.. I have read some really interesting & informative blogs but could not comment due to lack of time (or sometimes a hitch that one has to login to their site ). Good writeups make you a more observant, understanding and leaned human being. Isnt that an achievement itself?
[Reply]
August 5th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Rumaisa, about your point Good writeups make you a more observant, understanding and leaned human being..
Thats very true, I agree.
But here when you talk about Blogging, its not the aspect we are looking for.. and believe me. If you enter the world of Pro-Blogging, COMMENTS are one of the main Aspects in the popularity of a Blog !
About those, who require login to comment. Are already in the Pro-Blogging world and don’t care if one doesn’t leave a comment !

You make some very valid points. The content of a blog must be unique to get noticed. You must also write for humans and not do it for the money.
I think it also helps to be passionate about your niche. Otherwise, you will get bored and so will your visitors.
